Chi Phi Harvard Fraternity Poster

Resting quietly alone on the concrete floor in the corner of a partially finished basement is where this $10 gem had likely spent the last several years. Inconspicuously placed and covered in dust, it was still hard to not notice the red / cream colors that mimic 1920’s propaganda style posters. Very odd.

Turns out, 32 Hereford Street is Boston‘s Back Bay area near BU, Berklee and Northeastern, and what we have here is screen printed poster to promote a frat party. An interesting detail is that Lenin died on January 21st, so the date was more than likely chosen with intention. Another interesting fact about this one is the phone number: it’s using an old telephone exchange name system where the first two letters of the exchange correspond to numbers on the dial. COoper at 2+7-8355 where CO = 26. Apparently numbers were often written with exchange name + digits before area codes, so this coded number could translate to 617-269-7835, where the area code is assumed and 2+7=9. These were common in the 80’s-90’s and are pretty much worthless. They sell primarily for nostalgia vs artistic value.
